Requirements

What do I need to rent a vehicle?

In general you must: 1) Meet the minimum age; 2) Present a valid driver’s license and passport; and 3) Present a major credit card in the renter’s name. For details on credit card and other requirements, please see Requirements.

Can I drive in Chile with my local driver’s license or do I need an international permit?

You can drive in Chile with your local license. An international permit is not necessary.

How old do I have to be to rent a vehicle?

The minimum age is 23 years. Exceptions may be possible under certain conditions. For more information, please see Requirements.

Do I need a credit card to rent a vehicle?

Yes, to rent a vehicle a major credit card is indispensable (Visa, Mastercard, Amex or Diners). For more information, please see Requirements.

Can I use cash for the rental guarantee?

No, cash is not acceptable for the rental guarantee. Only a major credit card is acceptable.

Can I use a credit card that belongs to someone else?

No, the credit card must belong to the renter, and the renter must be present when the vehicle is picked up.

Reservations

How can I make a reservation?

You can reserve online in two minutes:

Step 1: On the main image of each page there is a form with a “Find My Car” button. Select the pickup and drop-off locations, dates and times, then click “Find My Car”.
Step 2: A new window will open with a list of available vehicles. Choose your desired vehicle category.
Step 3: To add optional services click “Options & Coverages” and select those you wish to add. Then click “Reserve This Vehicle”.
Step 4: If you are a returning customer, enter your email and last name to retrieve your information. Otherwise, click the New Customer link.
Step 5: Enter your personal data, credit card, flight info if applicable, and click “Complete Reservation”

You can also reserve by email, telephone or online chat.

What do Day, Week and Weekend rates mean?

Day: 24 hours from vehicle pickup time.
Weekend: vehicle pickup on Friday within normal office hours and return the following Monday at the same time. Pickup and drop-off must be at the same location.
Week: applies to rentals of 7 continuous days or more.

How can I change or cancel a reservation?

You can also send us an email to info@unitedrentacar.cl or call us at +56 22 963 8760. Cancelations must be notified 24 hours in advance to avoid any no-show charges. For more information, please see Cancellations.

Are additional drivers allowed?

Yes, additional drivers that meet our requirements may be authorized. There is a daily charge for each additional driver. For details please see Additional Drivers.

Do you deliver cars at the Santiago Airport?

Yes, we have rental counters in terminals T1 (domestic) and T2 (international). Follow the “Rent a Car” signs after collecting your baggage. There is a charge for pickup and/or drop-off at all airport locations. For more information, please see Pick-up and Drop-off at the Santiago Airport.

Important: for optimal coordination it is important to inform your arrival flight at least 24 hours before vehicle pick-up. If you were unable to include that information in your reservation or your plans have changed, please send an email to info@unitedrentacar.cl with your reservation number, airline and flight number.

Do your rates have any mileage limits?

No, all our rates include unlimited mileage.

What does unlimited mileage mean?

Unlimited mileage means that your rental rate will be the same regardless of the amount of miles traveled.

¿What is a TAG?

A TAG is an electronic device that is installed in all our vehicles to permit the charge of tolls and parking fees. The TAG works in Santiago, as well as the rest of the country.

When do I have to pay?

Payment is due before vehicle pickup. To facilitate the pickup process, the rental guarantee and the rental charges will be retained up to 72 hours prior to pickup. Payments for permits for travel to Argentina are due upon request of the service and are non-refundable.

Can I continue to use the vehicle beyond the drop-off date in the rental contract?

To continue a rental beyond the stipulated drop-off date, an extension must be requested and authorized at least 72 hours in advance. During high season rental extensions may be denied.

General Information

What taxes are levied on car rentals?

A value added tax (IVA) of 19% is applied to vehicle rentals, charges and fees.

Are foreigners required to pay IVA on car rentals?

Yes, car rental services do not have any tax exemption for foreigners. Tax exemption for foreigners only applies to lodging services (ie. hotels).

Where are your offices located?

Santiago Airport SCL: you will find our agent at exit door number 5 of the airport terminal building. Returns take place in the Expreso 2 parking building, Level 1, Sector B22.

Santiago Las Condes is located at the Vida Parque Araucano Car Park, Avenida Presidente Riesco 5330, Level A, Las Condes, in the midst of the Nueva Las Condes financial district, walking distance from the Parque Arauco Shopping Mall and the Metro Station Manquehue.

Santiago Bellavista is located at Bellavista 0183, Providencia, a few blocks from the Salvador Metro Station.

Santiago Downtown is located at Curicó 360, Santiago, a few blocks from the Universidad Católica Metro Station.

Santiago San Miguel is located at Gran Avenida 5428 (corner Departamental), San Miguel, next to the Departamental Metro Station (Line 2).

Our Calama Airport rental counter is located in the main lobby of the El Loa (CJC) airport, at the exit from baggage claim.

Concepción is located at San Martín Poniente 37, Concepción.

Our Puerto Montt Airport rental counter is located in the main lobby of the El Tepual (PMC) airport, at the exit from baggage claim.

What are your office hours?

What is the vehicular restriction all about?

Vehicular restriction is a prohibition applied to cargo vehicles (trucks, pickups and cargo vans) to circulate on certain days of the week based on the last digit of the license plate, determined randomly, when the authorities declare an environmental pre-emergency (2 digits) or emergency (4 digits) in Santiago.

The restriction applies to the area inside the ring encircled by Américo Vespucio from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. This disposition is applicable from May 1 to August 31 of each year.

How much luggage will fit in each vehicle?

Our fleet page has the cargo capacity of each vehicle expressed in liters.

Does the car have Bluetooth?

In general, all our passenger cars from the Compact category up have Bluetooth. The City Car and commercial vehicle categories may not have Bluetooth.

Does the car have Isofix?

In general, all our passenger sedans from Economy to Full Elite, our SUVs and minivans are equipped with Isofix.

Can I rent one-way?

Yes, you can drop-off in a different location than pickup, subject to additional charge. For further information, please see One Way Rentals.

Insurance

What insurance coverage is included?

Does the insurance cover theft of personal effects?

No, theft insurance only covers the vehicle, not the contents. As a precaution, we recommend never leaving personal effects inside unattended vehicles, even for a short time.

My credit card covers CDW, so can I decline your insurance?

Our standard insurance is included in our rates, therefore, it is not necessary to decline it in order to avail of your credit card coverage.

If an accident is caused by a third party and I am not at fault, will I still be responsible for the damage?

The renter is responsible for damage to the rental vehicle during the term of the rental up to the amount of the deductible, independently of whether or not he was at fault. Our company does not pursue third parties for damages.

To avoid this type of situation, we offer an option, Super Protection Coverage (CSP), which covers 100% of the deductible in case of accident, whether or not the renter was at fault. You may wish to consider this for greater peace of mind. For more information, please visit Services and Coverages.

Travel Out of Chile

Can I take a rental car to Argentina?

Yes, we can authorize certain categories of vehicles for travel to Argentina. For details, please see Geographic Restrictions.

Can I take a rental car to Perú or Bolivia?

Unfortunately, there is no insurance coverage for Perú or Bolivia, therefore, it is not possible for our vehicles to travel to those countries.

Can I drop-off a rental vehicle out of Chile?

No, rental vehicles must be returned to Chile by the same drivers that were authorized to take them out of Chile.
